A DETERMINED Bromsgrove youngster born with half a heart, who has nearly completed a charity challenge to swim 100 lengths over the summer holidays, is organising a cake sale this weekend to boost his fundraising efforts.

11-year-old Thomas Evans, from Broom Park, originally took on his swimming challenge at the start of the summer break, hoping to swim 15 lengths of the 25m pool at the David Lloyd leisure centre in Bromsgrove, more than he’d ever managed before, but he soon smashed that target.

When the donations started coming in, he upped his goal to 100 lengths, with hopes of raising £1,000 for the charity Little Hearts Matter, which helps families like his own.

Now with only days left in his swimathon he has raised nearly £800 of his target, and Bromsgrove Music School has stepped in to help him get to £1,000.

The school, where Thomas takes regular keyboard lessons, is hosting a cake sale this weekend to help top up the fundraising efforts.

The sale is taking place this Saturday, August 29 at the Music School at 13-15 Worcester Road, from 9.30am to 5pm.

There will be cakes and hot drinks on offer and anyone is welcome to come along, while Thomas himself will be helping out with sales for as long as he can from 10am to noon.

If anyone can’t come along to the cake sale, but would still like to help with the fundraising they can visit Thomas’ fundraising page at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DT1.
