A BROMSGROVE supermarket store has announced that the Primrose Hospice will be its charity of the year.

Annually the Sainsbury's Local store, in Stourbridge Road, will pick a good cause to support and this year it chose Primrose, with manager Matt Meek and colleagues being given the chance to take a tour of the hospice, meeting staff, volunteers and patients.

The St Godwald's Road-based charity supports people facing an end of life situation and their families during this difficult time.

To start the fundraising, members of staff recently took part in the 5k Rainbow Run, held in September, while Matt has signed up for the Birmingham Half Marathon.

The store's first birthday event is set to include a hog roast to raise money for the charity, while brave staff members will be doing a 10,000 freefall parachute jump next April.

A series of book and cake sales are also planned.

Kate Kelly, a Primrose fundraiser, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen to work in partnership with Matt and his team at Sainsbury’s Local.

"We look forward to seeing them raise vital funds to support local people when they need it the most."

The money raised will be going towards Primrose’s Day Hospice, along with Family Support and Primrose at Home services.
