RESIDENTS at a Bromsgrove care home invited their local Women's Institute to afternoon tea - to celebrate the organisation's centenary.

Burcot Grange Residential Care Home hosted the event recently to mark the 100 years since the WI's first meeting in 1915, which encouraged women to help with food supplies during the First World War.

Members of the Burcot and Blackwell WI - themselves noted for their cake-making skills - enjoyed a variety of cakes and pastries prepared by staff at Burcot Grange, as well as chatting to the residents.

Marjorie Whiting, chairman of the Worcestershire WI, said, "It was a most enjoyable, delicious celebration with glorious afternoon tea, friendship and fun - all values of the WI."

The Burcot and Blackwell branch celebrates its own 85th anniversary this month.
