RECENT figures revealing that 800 Bromsgrove residents took up apprenticeships over the past year has been backed by MP Sajid Javid.

The figures went onto show a total of 4,200 new apprenticeships had been created in the constituency since 2010, with the West Midlands showing a rise of 16.9 per cent in the past year.

Mr Javid, who is also Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, said: "This is all about backing the next generation of British talent.

"The rise in apprenticeships shows more young people, like those I recently met at Jaguar Land Rover, are benefitting from this practical route into the work place.

"That's why I'm leading the government's commitment to delivering three million more quality apprenticeships over the next five years.

"If anyone is looking to start an apprenticeship, I am arranging another Bromsgrove Jobs Fair next year on February 5, where a number of apprenticeships will be on offer with local employers."
