BIG hearted housing developer Barratt Homes West Midlands is doing its bit to help local folk in need over the festive period.

Barratt has set up a food bank collection point at its St Laurence Meadows site in Alvechurch until December 18.

It is encouraging people to play their part by donating non perishable food items and toiletries at the Birmingham Road development.

All the items that are donated will then be sent to Redditch Salvation Army, which in turn will distribute to people in need around the Alvechurch area.

Adrian Farr, from the firm, said: "We believe no one should go hungry and as Christmas is a time of giving, we hope the generosity of people in Alvechurch will mean everyone gets enough to eat and have the Christmas they deserve."

Items that are donated should be non perishable such as UHT or powdered milk, tinned vegetables, rice, pasta, tinned soups, jam biscuits, porridge, cereals, tea, coffee and tinned fish.

There is also an urgent need for sanitary products, toiletries and pet food.

A Salvation Army spokesperson said: "With winter approaching, many families will be under acute financial pressure over the coming months.

"With people's help, we can continue to provide emergency food parcels and immediate practical assistance as a first step to people who are working their way out of a crisis."

Barratt's St Laurence Meadows development is open on Mondays from 12-30pm until 5-30pm and from 10am until 5-30pm on Tuesday to Sunday.
