NEARLY 400 pupils at Alvechurch Middle School had the chance recently to watch ‘The Wimpy Kid Show’ after a touring theatre company brought the production into the school.

The free show, which is based on the global bestselling book series 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' about an American middle-school weakling named Greg Heffley, was organised by Worcestershire County Council's schools' library service which approached the books’ publishers Puffin to apply for the visit.

The show was made up of a live performance, interspersed with video clips from the author Jeff Kinney, and also included lots of interactive games for the children to take part in.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books were sold after the show, with a specially stamped image.

Sue Sheridan, head of English at Alvechurch Middle School, said: "The school was really excited about this opportunity and working with the library again. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are incredibly popular and the pupils were inspired by this visit.”

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities at Worcestershire County Council, added: "Well done to the schools' library service for persuading Puffin Books to bring this show outside London. This kind of entertainment is really valuable to our young readers – bringing books and characters even more to life, encouraging reading and making it all so much fun.”
