RESIDENTS at Breme Care Home in Bromsgrove had a visit from some special four-legged friends recently, when dogs from the charity Guide Dogs dropped by.

The dogs were accompanied by volunteer fundraiser Linda Atkins, who works with the charity’s Redditch and Bromsgrove branch, and guide dog owner Paula Dufour with her dog Cora.

The home’s activities leader Helen Barron, said: “It was such a lovely morning and our residents’ faces just lit up when they saw the dogs - they loved every second of it. The visit was very special – the dogs loved the fuss and our residents really enjoyed giving them a cuddle.”

Connie, Cora, Yazz, Rip and Rumble, who are all registered as Guide Dogs for the blind were very popular, as was Pets as Therapy dog, flat coated retriever Nadia who joined them for the morning.

Helen added: “They were so well behaved and we will definitely be invited back for another visit.”

Sue Bushell, community engagement officer for Guide Dogs Birmingham Mobility Team, said: “It was great to hear that everyone enjoyed the visit from Linda and Paula with their wonderful dogs. Our volunteers, Guide Dog owners and staff all work so well together and we just couldn’t do what we do without volunteers like Linda who is involved in the whole process from breeding puppies to walking them and fundraising too.”

The home on Providence Road, is also planning to open its doors every week for two free community events. Every Wednesday, between 11am and 1.30pm there will be a coffee morning, and then each Thursday, between 11am and noon, people are invited to join the residents for a gentle exercise class, which will include lots of bright and colourful props including balloons and bubbles. Anyone is welcome to attend.
