A DODFROD mum, who found a time capsule hidden in the walls of her home, plans to rebury the old envelope with updated photographs after she tracked down the previous occupants on Facebook.

Symone Price-Simon, of Woodland Road, was having work done on her house to knock down a partition wall when builders discovered a brown envelope hidden inside, filled with photographs and letters from the former owners.

After posting an appeal on the Spotted: Bromsgrove Facebook page, Symone was amazed to see her post shared more than 200 times, and reach one of the previous occupants' family members, who has since moved to Norwich.

Simone said: "I wanted to see if I could track them down and ask if they wanted to add any more to the time capsule before I put it back in the wall.

"It was a shot in the dark when I posted the appeal on Facebook - I had no idea where they were or who they were or if any one who still lives in Bromsgrove would know them. I was amazed when we actually tracked them down."

Ruth Bennett, whose grandparents used to live on Woodland Road, saw the Facebook post after being messaged by an old Bromsgrove school friend.

She said: "When I looked at the post I was both shocked and excited as I had completely forgotten about it. Quite a lot of people were posting messages on the page saying they recognised the names and remembered us.

"I showed the post to the rest of my family who were just as excited and happy as I was. Symone got in contact and we sent updated letters and photographs which she could add. It was really nice of her to appreciate our time capsule and try to find us."

Ruth, now 19 years old, used to lived with her parents and three siblings in Lickey Hills but often visited her grandparents' home in Dodford.

With the help of her brother Richard and two sisters Celia and Mary, Ruth and her grandparents made the time capsule and buried it in a new upstairs wall in April 2007.

Ruth added: "I think time capsules are a great idea and it's a bit like hidden treasure for those who find it! It would be nice for it to be found again for in the future and added to. I think we will definitely remember it now."

Since finding the envelope, Symone has been inspired to make her own time capsule with her son Joseph.

Symone said: "One of the children who made the time capsule, Richard, was six years old, and Joseph will be six in June so I thought it would be nice to add our own to the wall. At the moment there's a photograph in there, but I want to write a little bit about Joseph and the house and how much we paid for it - I thought that might be quite interesting for the next people that find it."
