AN Indian restaurant in Belbroughton has been nominated for a national award by Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid.

The Tiffin Cup is awarded annually by the Tiffin Club of MPs for the best South Asian restaurant in the country, and was first formed in 2006.

The competition not only seeks to find some of the best food on offer, but it also raises money for charity, and this year its aiming to raise funds for World Vision and Water Aid.

Mr Javid nominated Five Spice restaurant for the cup this year, and it will now go forward to the regional final to compete for a position in the grand final of the contest.

The restaurant, which is managed by Sadiq Miah, has already been awarded the Guild of Bangladeshi Restaurants Excellence Award 2014, and Trip Adviser Excellence Awards in 2014 and 2015.

Chair of the Tiffin Club, Keith Vaz MP, said: “After the overwhelming success of last year’s competition we are looking forward to another chance to sample some of the best offerings of Indian food in Britain. I wish Five Spice the best of luck in the competition.”

Bromsgrove MP, Sajid Javid, added: “I was thrilled to nominate one of our fantastic local restaurants for this prestigious award.

Although of course no one can beat my mum’s curry, I think Five Spice is certainly one of Bromsgrove’s best.

“I’m sure they will do us proud and hope very much to see Sadiq and his team at the House of Commons final.”

The grand final of the Tiffin Cup 2016 will be held at the House of Commons on Tuesday, July, 12, 2016.
