STUDENTS returning home to their parents in Bromsgrove for the summer are being reminded that they might be able to claim a refund in their TV licence fee for the time they’re at home.

Most students who paid up front for their TV licence at the start of the academic year in September, will have three months remaining on it, which means they should be able to claim a refund of £36 for the unused quarter.

To be eligible for the refund, students will need to have a TV licence with three months remaining on it, and be leaving their halls of residence or rented accommodation to move to a licensed address.

For students not moving home or moving into further rented accommodation, they will be able to move their TV licence to their new address.

Mark Whitehouse, spokesperson for TV Licensing in the West Midlands, said: “The student refund is brilliant news for students and we encourage those who bought their licence at the start of the academic year to claim the refund they’re entitled to. For those who aren’t moving back home for the summer, they can easily transfer their licence to their new student digs."
