THE NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group is promoting a number of walks around Worcestershire as part of National Walking Month this May.

The month is part of an initiative to encourage people to fit 20 more minutes' walking into their day in a bid to improve their general health.

Worcester County Council has a whole variety of walks on its website with details of how long they are, starting and finishing points, easy places to park, and where to find refreshments along the way. The walks are a combination of straight walks and circular ones, which end in the same location they begin, making it easier to access them by car.

In the Bromsgrove area, website viewers are recommended two walks, one of just over two miles around Romsley Penny Fields, and the second of anywhere between five and 12 miles following the Hunter’s Walk way signs which stretch from the centre of Bromsgrove into the ancient royal hunting forests.

Dr Carl Ellson, chief clinical officer at NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.

“Regular walking has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type two diabetes, asthma, stroke, and some cancers.”
