IT might look quite desolate at the moment, and like a town centre play area has been ripped out, but the children of Bromsgrove have nothing to fear, a brand new exciting playground is about to be built right in the middle of Bromsgrove, ready for the start of the summer holidays.

The play area next to Asda off Recreation Road, has all been dismantled, and over the next four weeks a new area will be installed with what the council describes as ‘urban-themed’ facilities.

The new area has been planned, and will be delivered and maintained by Bromsgrove District Council, using planning gain money, and will pay homage to the recent history of the area with a ‘grand arch’ in honour of the former wartime drill hall, which has just been demolished to make way for a new assisted living complex.

Councillor Peter Whittaker, Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for leisure, said: “We’re delighted to be able to bring this latest major park upgrade to our residents. We know that people really value improved and modernised play facilities that keep on giving children and families more and better opportunities for active outdoor fun.

“Sorry for any disruption in the meantime, please bear with us as contractors carry out the works.”

The new play area should be up and running by the end of July in time for the school summer holidays.
