POLICE are reminding Pokémon gamers to stay and play safe over the summer holidays.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Please remember that your safety comes before catching that Drowzee or Squirtle. Let someone know where you're going, be aware of your surroundings and follow all normal road safety advice.

"For grown ups playing - we hope it goes without saying but under no circumstances is it okay to catch Pokémon whilst you're driving."

Gamers are advised to plan journeys before taking to the streets, and to avoid shortcuts through dark places.

Police are also reminding residents that mobile phones are attractive to thieves, so to be cautious where they are used.
