A 68-YEAR-OLD Bromsgrove woman says she is lucky to be alive after her husband saved her from drowning when she fell into the River Severn.

Margaret Arthur and her 70-year-old husband Tony were staying at their park home in Lenchford Meadow Park in Worcester on July 3 when Margaret tripped over a chair and plunged 12 feet into the river.

Despite being unable to swim Tony dived in after his wife and managed to drag her to the surface, alerting nearby fishermen to come and help the pair to shore.

West Midlands Ambulance service rushed to the scene following reports a woman had fallen into the river.

Margaret refused hospital treatment but was admitted to Worcestershire Royal Hospital that evening after collapsing at her park home.

She said: “I was diagnosed with secondary drowning and pneumonia. Tony was given a check over and was found to be alright. Without my husband and those fishermen I would have not been able to tell my story. They saved my life and it really was a miracle.

“I have now recovered but I owe my life to the wonderful people that saved us. My husband risked his life to save me - he is my hero.”
