TWO high schools in Hagley have been working on designs to help combat the problem of litter in their local park.

Students from Haybridge High School and Hagley Catholic High School were creating the designs to be put onto the side of litter bins in Hagley Park near the train station.

Deputy head teacher Rob Lightfoot, from Haybridge High School said: “Students from both schools have presented at a number of assemblies to raise awareness of the litter situation and to encourage a wider campaign to keep their local community free from litter.”

Cllr Steven Colella, Bromsgrove district councillor, and chairman of Hagley Parish Council, added: “The school has done some really positive work to try and tackle a problem which affects all of the community.

"Hagley Parish Council has increased the number of litter picks and bins as well as asking residents to report when litter is a problem. We've made an appeal to the users of the playing fields to pick up their litter before they leave and with the support of the schools we hope that the message will soon be heard. Hagley is a lovely place to live and the actions of a few risk giving the playing fields a bad name."

The project has been supported and funded by Bromsgrove Community Safety Partnership, and if residents do have concerns about litter in the area, they should report it to the Bromsgrove hub, or via the ‘report a problem’ form at bromsgrove.gov.uk.
