BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid joined the other Worcestershire MPs in supporting the renewal of Trident this week.

All six voted in favour of renewing the UK's nuclear weapons system, helping Prime Minister Theresa May secure a big Commons victory.

Mr Javid said: "There is no greater responsibility than ensuring the safety and security of the British people.

"Through the maintenance of an independent, submarine-based nuclear weapons system, we can be prepared for unknown threats.

But critics say the £31 billion replacement is too costly, with others arguing that the use of such a weapon would be legally and morally wrong.

The decision was passed by 472 votes to 117 - a majority of 355.
