A STORYTELLING project, aiming to help adults with dementia relive old memories, will be held at Avoncroft Museum this month.

The nationwide Suitcase Stories project, made up of storytelling and music workshops, is set to run every Monday from October 31 until December 5, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

Bromsgrove residents suffering with dementia and their carers will be able to relive memories from the 40s, 50s and 60s by touching, smelling and feeling objects from the past.

These include carbolic soap and old pictures of the royal family, supplied by Museums Worcestershire, which will inspire tales for storyteller Gavin Young to perform.

There will also be live performances in six local dementia cafes across the county, aiming to connect Worcestershire residents to their memories using art and heritage.

Cllr Peter Whittaker, whose portfolio covers leisure and cultural services, said: "Not only will these workshops help transport dementia sufferers back in time and provide them with an enjoyable afternoon, the narratives that come from them will also provide a record of real-life stories in history."
