SPARKS will fly on Bonfire Night in Bromsgrove but can you handle the heat during a sponsored firewalk across 20 feet of burning embers?

Brave fundraisers are invited to join a firewalk in Sanders Park, Bromsgrove, from 5pm on Saturday, November 5, to help support blind and partially sighted people in the region.

The event, hosted by Sight Concern Worcestershire, challenges participants to cross a fire lane that will be burning at a core temperature of over 400-600 degrees Fahrenheit.

Among the first people to sign up for the challenge is Michelle Coyle, one of Sight Concern’s two local Advice and Support Officers who work in the Bromsgrove and Redditch areas.

Ms Coyle said: "I’ve come across fire walking before and have always been amazed that people can walk 20 feet across burning embers and don’t get burned.

"When I heard that my own charity was planning to stage one, I couldn’t resist the challenge!

"This event also appeals to me because it’s all about overcoming your fears.

"This is something which blind and partially sighted people have to do all the time in their daily lives."

The event is part of Bromsgrove District Council’s explosive evening of Bonfire Night entertainment at Sanders Park, which also includes a fun fair, food, live music and fireworks.

Jenny Gage, Chief Officer at Sight Concern, said: "We’re so grateful to Bromsgrove District Council for allowing us to be part of their spectacular firework event.

"I have fire walked myself and it’s good to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.

"Sight Concern Worcestershire is now delivering services to blind and partially sighted people in the Bromsgrove area, so we’re delighted to be part of this wonderful community event."

A firewalk training seminar will begin at Scout Hut from 5pm, before the big event at 6pm.

A £20 booking fee is required and walkers are asked to raise as much sponsorship as possible. Spectators are asked to pay a £5 entrance fee, which includes fireworks.

Everyone will receive a special certificate and a photograph of their daring deed, while anyone raising more than £150 will also receive a special event t-shirt.
