BROMSGROVE residents are being reminded to have their say on the new Minerals Local Plan, which will influence how much and which minerals can be extracted in the district.

As Worcestershire County Council is required to contribute towards national supplies, it is inviting residents to voice their views and find out more at a third drop-in session.

Residents have been able to add their views to the consultation about the council’s approach to managing mineral extraction since December last year.

Once the plan is adopted, it will be used to make decisions about planning applications for mineral extraction, processing and restoration in the county.

The council is holding a third information Open Day on Saturday, January 14, which includes details about how and where mineral extraction may take place in Bromsgrove.

The consultation also sets out how sites should be "restored" when working has finished and how minerals development should protect and enhance areas.

Worcestershire is thought to have sand and gravel, some types of rock, building stone, brick clay, silica sand, coal and salt, but there is no evidence of minerals suitable for fracking.

The information session will be held at Bromsgrove Library between 10am-3.30pm and is designed for residents, Parish Councils and others to ask any questions.

The consultation runs until March 8.

Consultation documents can be viewed at worcestershire.gov.uk/minerals, at County Hall Reception on Spetchley Road in Worcester and public libraries in Worcestershire.
