BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has called on Jeremy Hunt to address the pressures faced in the NHS following recent deaths at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

One patient at the hospital died from a cardiac arrest after 35 hours waiting in a corridor, while another, who had an aneurysm, was taken into the resuscitation area but died.

A third person died after hanging themselves on a ward in the hospital.

Mike Adamson, the British Red Cross charity's chief executive, claimed hospitals in England were facing a "humanitarian crisis".

And speaking to ITV, Health Secretary Mr Hunt admitted that Worcestershire Royal "is the hospital the department are most worried about".

Bromsgrove’s MP met with the Health Secretary on Tuesday (January 11) and called for measures to address the pressures at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

He said: "I met with the Health Secretary and raised my concerns as the Bromsgrove MP over the incident at the Worcestershire Royal.

"I was deeply saddened to hear of this news and my thoughts are with the close friends and families of those affected.

"It’s important now more than ever that we address these local pressures, and I was reassured by the Health Secretary that he recognises the seriousness of this issue.

"As always, improving our local health services for constituents continues to remain my top priority."

All three deaths are understood to have happened between New Year’s Eve and Tuesday, January 3.

During that period, Bromsgrove’s Minor Injury Unit closed so staff could be redeployed to A&E at Worcestershire Royal in a bid to ease pressure.
