IMPORTANT advice on alcohol consumption will be given to Bromsgrove residents as part of a Drinkaware initiative held at the town’s Asda.

The store, on Market Street, has teamed up with alcohol education charity, Drinkaware, for an information session on Friday, January 13, from 11am until 2pm.

Visitors will be given the opportunity to access advice and ask questions, while there will also be specific help for parents on how to speak to their kids about alcohol.

Chris Lowe, senior director for Corporate Affairs at Asda, said: "We are pleased to be hosting Drinkaware trained colleagues in store offering accessible, friendly advice to customers.

"Our customer insight shows that a lot of shoppers think about their health in January and look for ways to cut back on their alcohol consumption after the festive period.

"This new project aims to provide impartial, evidence-based information and practical resources in a non-judgmental, engaging and fun environment."

Visitors will be encouraged to complete a quick alcohol assessment using Drinkaware scratchcards and can also take home a free alcohol unit measuring cup and calorie wheel.

Elaine Hindal, chief executive at Drinkaware, added: "This January we are spreading the word about how having just a little less alcohol can help people stay healthy and we hope the information we present can help people make better choices about their drinking."

Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid, who will attend the event, hopes the day can help promote responsible drinking in the district.

He said: "Alcohol misuse is a serious danger. It’s important that we do more to promote responsible drinking.

"Thank you to Asda and Drinkaware for helping to raise awareness across Bromsgrove."

People who take part also have the chance to enter a prize draw to win a £50 Asda gift card.
