A ‘HEROIC’ Bromsgrove woman who has channelled the devastation of her own pregnancy problems to support others has been shortlisted for a national award.

Kym Beacham has been nominated for a Tommy’s Award by her friend Amy Withington, who lost her daughter Paige on June 15, 2015, due to a placental eruption at 26 weeks.

Mrs Beacham, 39, came to the support of Amy and her husband Gary, of Wheaton Aston, having experienced heartbreak during her own pregnancy problems.

Amy decided to surprise her friend by nominating her for a ‘Courage Award’, which is ran by pregnancy charity Tommy’s, to thank her for being there in her time of need.

Amy, 28, who works with Kym as a Flybe flight crew member, said: "I decided to nominate her for the award but didn't tell her so it was a little bit of a surprise.

"I just want to give back to her for all the help she has given me.

"Kym came forward to me straight away and listened to my pain and was there for the tears and helping me back to work, even holding my hand on the first day back.

"It is such a help to have that support from someone who has been through the same experience as you. She is an amazing person and has been such a massive support.

"I gave birth to my son Lewis in November and Kym was checking on me the whole way through – she has been my hero."

Mrs Beacham has raised thousands of pounds by completing marathons for Tommy’s, who research into pregnancy problems and provide health advice for parents.

Jane Brewin, CEO of Tommy’s, said: "The silence that surrounds miscarriage makes it difficult for women to be open about the wide range of reactions they might experience.

"That is why women like Kym speaking about their experience and being open about miscarriage is so important."

Now in its 22nd year, the Tommy’s Awards recognise heroes of families who’ve have been touched by pregnancy complications, or the loss of a baby.

The winners in the awards’ eight categories will be announced at a ceremony at the Landmark Hotel in London on March 24.
