BARNT Green author Steve Dunn has continued to pay tribute to the brave British sailors of the First World War in his latest book Securing the Narrow Sea.

Steve, who lives in Fiery Hill Drive, claims that many of the sailor's stories have been ignored of forgotten, which is why he has written five books on the subject.

His fifth book was published last month, and turns the spotlight on the men of the Dover Patrol, who battled to keep control of the English Channel during World War One.

"It’s incredible that so little has been written about the Dover Patrol," said Steve. "Not least because they were involved in the longest, and probably the most arduous, continuous naval campaign of the war and yet few people know of their activities.

"What stands out about these men is their uncomplaining devotion to a hard duty. They coped with the daily perils as they fought against the German U-boat threat in an effort to protect Britain’s supply chain and 2,000 lost their lives during the four-year battle.”

During the last four years, Steve has travelled around the country speaking at First World War and naval events, and says he continues to be surprised by the positive feedback.

He said: "Writing is a solitary occupation so it’s been great to get out there and be able to meet and talk to people about my books. I had no idea there was such an interest in the subject.”

Securing the Narrow Sea featured several first-hand accounts in an attempt to bring the patrol's exploits and challenges to life.

The book is available to buy on Amazon.
