A TABLETOP sale will be held at Stoke Prior Village Hall next Saturday to raise funds to restore the village church tower.

Proceeds from the event on February 25 will go towards vital restoration work on the tower at St Michael's and All Angels Church.

The Stoke Prior Church Restoration Fund was first organised in February last year, with the aim of raising £150,000. So far £33,000 has been raised through various music events and a summer ball.

The tabletop sale will feature 15 tables, selling a variety of items and gifts. Entry costs 50p or free for children.

June Crofts, church warden, said: "It's all in aid of the Stoke Prior Church Tower Fund. A lot of the work that needs doing is down to age, but on the square tower one of the corners has fallen off. If we're not careful the others will follow suit. It's really a question of getting the scaffolding up but we've got to get X amount of money before we can do that. It's a massive job."

Church staff are hoping to get scaffolding up next year, and are in the process of applying for the Heritage Lottery Fund to help them reach their target.
