THREE senior officers who work at Bromsgrove District Council earned more than £100,000 in the 2015/16 financial year, it has emerged.

The hefty salaries have been revealed in a ‘rich list’ report by the Taxpayers’ Alliance (TPA), who questioned the pay packets of so-called 'fat cat' council bosses.

Yet their inclusion in the report does not reflect the cost borne by Bromsgrove council, who do not pay any employee a six-figure sum.

A council spokesman explained: “The figures quoted by the TPA are inaccurate.

“While three senior officers who work at Bromsgrove District Council are on salaries of over £100,000, these costs are spilt, 50-50, with Redditch Borough Council as part of our Shared Services project.”

The TPA say the Chief Executive earns £141,908 and the Executive Director of Finance and Resources earns £105,607 – both employed by Bromsgrove District Council.

It adds the Executive Director of Leisure, Environmental and Community earns £114,735, and is employed by Redditch Borough Council.

Costs are split evenly between both Bromsgrove and Redditch councils, meaning neither council pays an employee more than £100,000.

Elsewhere, Worcestershire County Council’s tally of big earners includes out-going chief executive Clare Marchant, who is on £155,000.

Ms Marchant said: "The council is committed to being open and transparent to taxpayers and as such publishes its 'Statement of Accounts' including salary information for all senior leadership posts on our website."

Nationally, the report found at least 2,314 council employees received total remuneration in excess of £100,000 in 2015/16 – up from 89 the previous year.

John O'Connell, Chief Executive of the TPA, said: "There are talented people in the public sector who are trying to deliver more for less, but the sheer scale of these packages raise serious questions about efficiency and priorities."
