A CHURCH in Beoley is trying to contact families to restore unsafe gravestones in the churchyard.

Following a recent inspection, a small number of stones in St Leonard's Church were identified as dangerous to churchyard users due to their age and condition.

They have been laid down to prevent them from falling and the church now needs to make contact with the families of the deceased.

St Leonard's vicar, the Rev Paul Irving said: “It’s important that our churchyard remains a safe place for everyone to come and use.

"The graves affected are all quite old and we no longer have any contact details for family members. We’d therefore like to appeal for any people connected to the graves to contact us so that we can discuss arranging to restore an appropriate monument to the departed.”

The names of the departed whose graves are affected are: Victor Brookes and Edith Read, Robert Adams, Lydia Barrow, Harold George Smith and Kathleen Alice Smith.

Anyone with any information is being urged to contact the church on 01527 435683.
