STUDENTS at Bromsgrove's Heart of Worcestershire College have been designing concepts for a life-sized sculpture, made entirely from tubular steel.

Working alongside engineering firm Lister, Art and Design pupils were set a brief to plan the sculpture, based around the company's values and products.

The students started the project with a visit to the Lister factory in March, and chief executive Peter Davies has since selected his six favourites to be considered by the company's council.

The winning plans will be created and displayed to the public in various locations around Bromsgrove and Redditch.

Mr Davies said: "The students demonstrated very strong technical skills in producing the models and obviously put a lot of thought and care into their designs.

"The standard of work was so high that, even though we could only select a few to take forward at this stage, we truly considered them all great pieces of art.”

Teachers at Heart of Worcestershire College hope the project will help students create useful employment links for later life.

Level two Art and Design student Lewis Dyer said: "This project has allowed me to use a multitude of different methods and techniques such as spray painting. It has also given me the experience of working with a client which will be useful in later life.”
