VOLUNTEERS and staff at a Rubery charity shop are celebrating the end of their first year raising vital funds for victims of brain injury.

Headway opened its doors in New Road a year ago this week, and shop manager Sue Wilcox has thanked members of the local community for their invaluable donations.

She said: "These first twelve months have flown by and we’re really pleased with the progress we’ve made. One year on, we have a shop to be proud of, with a range of good quality stock and many customers who call by on a regular basis.

“This is an ideal time to thank everyone who has helped make the shop such a success – from those who have donated their unwanted possessions to the team of volunteers who work so hard week in, week out to keep the shop looking so good.

"It really makes a difference and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved for their ongoing support.”

Proceeds from the shop go towards funding specialist brain injury treatment by Headway in the surrounding area, including at Leighton House unit at Great Park.

The one-year anniversary celebrations included free refreshments for customers and a special visit from a group of brain injured clients.

Clients at the Headway art group designed a poster to advertiser the birthday event.

Sue added: "We’re constantly refreshing the stock on our shelves and rails, and so we’re always grateful for any donations. We also need extra volunteers and so would encourage anyone with a few hours to spare to get in touch.”

The store, open from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday, accepts donations of clothing, accessories, books, toys, games and bric-a-brac, as well as small electrical items.
