A CREATIVE nine-year-old pupil at Stoke Prior First School has decided a name for the village's newest housing development.

Homebuilders Barratt Homes asked students to come up with a name for the project at the former Polymer Latex factory site, where construction is due to begin later this year.

Leah Rosewell was named overall winner with her suggestion 'Henbrook Gardens', which will be used on all signs and promotional material for the lifetime of the development.

Leah said: "I chose the name Henbrook Gardens because Henbrook is the name of the brook next to the local canal, and because there are lots of gardens and nurseries nearby.”

Runners up included seven-year-old Mille Warman with her idea 'Salt King's Meadow', and eight-year-old Leo Collins in 3rd place with his suggestion of 'Red Maple Gardens'.

All three students were presented with Toys R Us Vouchers at the end of the school term.

Graydon Worthing, Barratt Homes sales director, said: "As a way of engaging with the community, we decided to involve the children at the local school in naming our forthcoming development in Stoke Prior. We’re pleased to now announce we’ll be naming it Henbrook Gardens, after Leah’s delightful and well-thought out suggestion."

The Westonhall Road site is set to be turned into 203 new homes, bringing more than 400 jobs to the town. See our full story for more details.

Bromsgrove Advertiser:

Stoke Prior First School headteacher Leigh Satchwell said: "The competition got our pupils thinking about where they live and they showed great enthusiasm for the project. We look forward to seeing how Henbrook Gardens progresses.”

The first new homes at Henbrook Gardens are expected to be released for sale later this year.
