A MANHUNT is underway after two men equipped with an axe and a knife threatened staff and stole a “substantial amount of money” during an armed robbery at Catshill Working Men’s Club.

The incident took place at the club on Meadow Road just after 11pm on Tuesday, August 8.

A man reported to be carrying an axe grabbed a member of staff by the arms and demanded money.

A second man, reported to be holding a bladed article, demanded more money from the safe before both men left on foot in an unknown direction.

Detective Constable Darren Shiels of Worcestershire CID said: "This was an understandably traumatic experience for the members of staff, who thankfully were not injured during the incident.

"Officers arrived quickly at the scene and a thorough investigation has been launched to identify the suspects, who are believed to have stolen a substantial amount of money before leaving.

"The first offender has been described as a black man who was wearing a black hat and scarf around his face, with a black jacket, black trousers and black trainers.

"The second offender has been described as a white man, also wearing a black hat, black scarf, black jacket and light grey jogging bottoms with a stripe running down the leg.

"If you saw anyone matching the descriptions in the area or have any information about the incident, please call police on 101 and quote incident number 785s of August 8."
