LOCAL figures and landmarks have provided the inspiration in a competition to name the suites at a brand new care home in Bromsgrove.

Pupils from St John's C of E Middle School Academy were handed the chance to name the four suites at Care UK’s Chandler Court on Recreation Road.

All entries had to have cultural or historical reference to the local area, with names by Year 6 students Naomi Curtis and Lucy Weston chosen as the winners.

The duo won book vouchers for their winning ideas the ‘Windmill Suite’ to commemorate the 19th century windmill at Avoncroft Museum, the ‘Buckingham Suite’ in reference to the gates at Buckingham Palace which were made by the Bromsgrove Guild, the ‘Houseman Suite’ after Bromsgrove poet A. E. Houseman, and the ‘Sanders Suite’ after Sanders Park.

Care UK regional director Daniel Turner-Naylor said: “The ideas the pupils put forward were all of a very high quality, and we’re really pleased with the chosen four names.”

“As we gear up to welcome the first residents to the home later this year, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a priority, and we thought this presented an excellent opportunity to work with St John's C of E Middle School Academy, and to get to know our neighbours a little better.”

The new four-storey care home will feature 81 ensuite bedrooms and incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities by including its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
