AN INSPIRATIONAL schoolgirl from Bromsgrove who suffered with impaired hearing in both ears for as long as she can remember has raised an incredible £2,350 for the hospital that cured her.

Paige Ayers, 15, from Sidemoor, who attends North Bromsgrove High School, was diagnosed with glue ear at just 12 months old, which meant she was unable to hear certain tones very well.

Since the age of three, Paige had been visiting the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and had numerous operations before specialists rectified her hearing last year.

Paige was inspired to “give something back” to the hospital and raised £2,350 at a charity ball at Bromsgrove Rugby Club.

She said: “After being discharged last year at the age of 14 I thought it was only right to give something back, so I organised a charity ball with some help from my mom.

“My initial aim was to raise £1,000 but with the help of everyone who attended on the night I gave Birmingham Children’s Hospital a cheque for £2,350. I’m so happy with the result.”

The night, on Friday, August 18, was attended by 150 people and included a disco by Dave Troth and Ian Godwin, a pig roast by Street Food which was sponsored by Aaron Kernaghan at Ecl-ips Monitoring Services, and an appearance from Wayne Humphries the magician.

Money was also raised through a raffle with prizes donated by Banners, Jenna Poyner Beauty, Hayley Warren, Hogarth’s Stone Manor, Upper Cutz hair design, Morrisons, Boots Bromsgrove, Webbs of Wychbold, The Abbey Hotel & Golf Club Redditch, Dudley Zoo and West Midland Safari Park.

Morgan Motor Company also donated an overnight hire of one of their cars which raised £201 in a silent auction.

Paige added: “I would also like to say a massive thank you to Melanie Halstead from NWBL, John Clapham IFA and Vikki Strong for sponsoring parts of the evening and helping make it happen.”

Proud mum and dad Nicky and Darren added: “All of Paige’s family and friends are extremely proud of her achievements.

“To have such a kind-hearted young lady who takes the time to organise such a successful event makes us very proud.”
