TWO members of Aston Fields Social Club have raised £800 for Macmillan by giving up booze for 31 days.

Kevin Kendal and Michael Walton, both 46, stuck to the lime and sodas for the whole of October to raise funds for a charity close to their hearts.

Salesman Kevin, who lives in Aston Fields, said: “It was just an idea at first, that we’d to Stoptober and go off the beer. Then Dale Harris at the social club made a sponsorship form and we realised we had to do it.

“We went all the way through October without a single drop, which was difficult because we go to the social club a lot and everyone else was goading us to have a drink. But we said no we’ve got to do this – it’s for Macmillan.

”Mike and I have both lost parents to cancer.”

Kevin said Macmillan were ‘superb’ when his dad and Michael’s mum were ill.

The pair had their first drink after completing the challenge at one minute past midnight on November 1.

Kevin is now looking forward to completing a 10k fundraiser for the charity in May 2018.
