MCDONALD'S has submitted an application to open a two-storey drive-thru restaurant in Bromsgrove town centre.

The proposed branch would be built on the council-owned car park off Birmingham Road and Stourbridge Road, bringing more than 65 full and part-time jobs.

A spokesman for McDonald's said: "We can confirm that we have submitted a planning application for a new drive thru restaurant in Bromsgrove.

"If approved, we believe the new restaurant would bring investment to the local community.”

The restaurant would seat around 120 diners, and would be accessible via the existing entrance off Stourbridge Road, although the junction would need widening.

An outside area would feature a dining patio, 38 car parking spaces, including two disabled, plus eight bicycle racks.

'Natural and neutral' colours and materials would be used, in an attempt to integrate the site with the surrounding landscape.

Bromsgrove District Council confirmed it had received the application and said it will be considered by the planning committee in due course.

The town's last McDonalds branch closed down in 2007, after 21 years on the high street. Fast foodies have since had to travel to Wychbold or Longbridge for their nearest restaurant.
