BROMSGROVE's newest care home Chandler Court was officially opened last week by two of the development's first residents and town vicar Rev Ray Khan.

Members of the local community were invited to share in the celebrations on Thursday, when retirees Margaret Crowther and Joyce Smith helped to cut the ribbon on the £6.7million Care UK home.

The Recreation Road development, which caters for up to 81 people, welcomed its first residents at the end of January.

Chandler Court manager Jo Gill said: “We were delighted to welcome Rev Ray Khan to officially open the home and mark this important milestone.

We would also like to thank Cllr Rita Dent, Patricia Jenkins, and everyone who visited and helped to make this such a special day.

“Since we opened the doors to Chandler Court, the residents and their families have been at the heart of everything we do, including the launch celebrations.

"It was fantastic to welcome so many local people to the home, our grand launch really was a day to remember.”

Guests of honour at the launch event included Cllr Dent, who placed the final tile on the care home's roof in October, and Bromsgrove resident Patricia Jenkins, who named the development following a regional competition.

Visitors took part in activities including a baking demonstration in the dining room, mocktail-making in the cinema, and enjoyed music from 1940s singers The D-Day Darlings.

The new four-storey care home has been designed to support its residents to live active lives, while also promoting independence, and incorporates space for a cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
