MORE than 600 rocks have been painted red, white and blue by children across Bromsgrove to celebrate the royal wedding.

Members of Bromsgrove ROCKS! - a social media group which sees more than 2,000 children and families decorating and hiding rocks - have been busy painting patriotic patterns in preparation for a special Royal Wedding Rocks event to mark the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The group met in Sanders Park on Friday (May 18) to swap rocks, ready for them to be hidden across the district and beyond.

Aston Fields mum Jayne Taylor, who runs the group, said: "The royal wedding was the perfect excuse to organise a themed event and get all our members together.

Bromsgrove Advertiser:

"I painted 200 rocks myself but we've had a fantastic response from all the children, who are very excited to get hunting once all the rocks are hidden."

Jayne, who has been affectionately nicknamed 'The Rock Lady', launched the Facebook group in November in an attempt to get more children off their iPads and enjoying the outdoors.

Bromsgrove rocks have been found as far as Mount Snowden, Spain and the United States.

Jayne added: "There has been a lot of excitement about the royal wedding so it's been fun coming up with different designs.

"I actually wrote to the Queen to tell her about our event but I imagine she's been too busy with the wedding planning to reply."

Anyone who finds a royal wedding rock is encouraged to take a photo of the stone, post it on the Bromsgrove ROCKS! Facebook group, and then re-hide it for others to find.
