Save the Children

THE Bromsgrove branch of Save the Children is in urgent need of support.

The charity first started up in Bromsgrove in 1972 by Beryl Prideaux whose husband, Charles Prideaux, was the area organiser.

“I don’t need to stress what a wonderful reputation Save the Children has worldwide and how its funds are so carefully and effectively used.”

Chairman Cath Elliott

Since then it has raised money to help needy children all over the world, but in recent years fundraisers have dwindled.

Current chairman, former Bromsgrove GP Cath Elliott, said: “In recent years the inevitable ageing problems and illness has caught up with a large number of the committee members. But we now have four energetic young members, all with full-time jobs, who are keen to put on evening events with the help of retiring members.”

Last Thursday’s AGM was due to be crucial to the club’s future. Members were due to discuss whether to struggle on hoping for new members, especially car drivers, or become a satellite group to the Worcester branch.

Dr Elliott said: “I don’t need to stress what a wonderful reputation Save the Children has worldwide and how its funds are so carefully and effectively used.”

Save the Children volunteers will also be present at the Blue Cross Fete which is being held on Saturday, August 30, at Wildmoor Lane, Catshill, and will be delighted to talk to prospective new members.
