Paralympic star meets pupils from town schools

A PARALYMPIC medalist and television presenter met pupils from schools across Bromsgrove during a visit to the town.

As part of national school sport week, Ade Adepitan visited Bromsgrove School, in Worcester Road, on July 1, where youngsters from 12 schools from across Worcestershire gathered to participate in an aquathon event.

For the challenge, pupils were challenged to swim 200 metres, and run 1200 metres.

Youngsters also had the chance to speak to Ade who was a key member of Great Britain’s wheelchair basketball team that won a bronze medal at the 2004 Paralymics in Athens.

The national school sport week, held between June 29 and July 3, used the power of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to inspire more town youngsters to get involved in sport.

Ade Adepitan, said: “The sporting journey for many Olympians and Paralympians begins at school.

“It’s a crucial period for a young athlete’s development and I hope by bringing London 2012 into classrooms, national school sport week will inspire our next generation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes.”
