New Tory candidate chosen to stand in Bromsgrove

A NEW Conservative candidate has been chosen to fight the Bromsgrove seat in this year's general election.

Sajid Javid, a businessman and entrepreneur with family connections to the West Midlands, hopes to replace MP Julie Kirkbride.

Mr Javid said his whole focus was to talk about the future.

Ms Kirkbride has been told to repay £29,243. She said before Christmas she would not fight the general election.

Mr Javid, who was one of six candidates, was chosen by a majority vote at a meeting of the Bromsgrove Conservative Association on Saturday.

Ms Kirkbride and her husband, fellow MP Andrew MacKay, were told to repay more than £60,000 of expenses claimed for second homes.

Mr MacKay, the Conservative MP for Bracknell, has been asked to repay £31,193.

Ms Kirkbride claimed thousands of pounds in expenses for their family home in her constituency. Mr MacKay claimed on the property they shared in London.

Asked about his motto for the area, Mr Javid said: "My motto is we've done well and we can do even better."

He added that he was "a fresh candidate" and said: "What's happened in the past has happened.

"My whole focus is... really [to] talk about the future and what the next MP for Bromsgrove can do for locals when elected and that's what I'm going to keep focussed on."

Mr Javid said he wanted to meet as many local residents as he could over the next few weeks.

So now we have a Muslim parachuted in by Tory Central Office, the Membership Secretary of the "Chinese Liberal Democrats" for the LibDems and a friend of the disgraced Jacqui Smith for Labour.

Great !

Maybe if the main Party's selected candidates that truly represent the Bromsgrove community, rather than chancers who use us as voting fodder, then politics may actually be held in higher esteem.

How about someone who lives in the area, is a member of OUR community and cares about US rather than their career?

Radical I know. But are they saying that there is no-one in Bromsgrove that is up to the job? I think not...

Vote for TRULY local candidates and send these people packing.

Sally Patch, Bromsgrove says...
10:20am Sun 7 Feb 10

It is due to 'dithering' by Bromsgrove Conservative Association that forced Central Office to 'parachute' in potential candidates! They didn't put forward ANY local candidates!!!

Give Mr Javid a chance. At least he seems to have spent many years in ganiful employment, unlike some Independent candidates.

Anyone has to be better than the shameful and corrupt Stepford Bride, Julie Kirkbride!

Mercian, Bromsgrove says...
10:55am Sun 7 Feb 10

Dithering or not, this guy is unrepresentative of the local community. Why should we vote for him?

Bromsgrove needs someone who represents the people and it's people are not Muslim, not bankers and not Pakistani.

The major party's recognise that in this multicultural society each community demands people who represent their electorate and can understand their needs and aspirations. That is why they are putting forward Muslim candidates in Muslim areas.

Bromsgrove people should therefore be represented by an Englishman/woman of Christian heritage who knows the town, its history and it's people. A person who has roots here.

Why should we be treated as mere voting fodder rather than a community with our own interests, culture and history?

Why should we be given less regard than migrant communities?

All about the Tory Party, the candidate and his friends and NOTHING about the people of Bromsgrove. We are just voting fodder. Just grist to their mill and not people in our own right.

We deserve better.

I expect people will desert the Conservatives in droves. This is a VERY insensitive appointment.

I for one - a lifelong supporter, together with my family and friends - feel very let down. After all the fuss over Julie Kirkbride I would have thought the Conservative Party would have given us a candidate we can relate to and from our own community.

Sally Patch, Bromsgrove says...

Bromsgrove Conservative Association are the ones who asked Central Office for 6 candidates. They did NOT put forward any local people. Bromsgrove Conservative Association then picked between the 6 candidates. Anyone with a problem with their choice should demand answers from Mr Dent, Bromsgrove Conservative Chairman, the man who backed shamed Kirkbride until the bitter end.
Personally, Mr Javid has assured us that he will be moving his family to the area. Mr Javid is British born and came from humble beginnings and has obviously worked in the State School system to achieve his current position. I cannot see why his religion has any bearing on his integrity. As for saying that we need a member of our 'own communtiy', Mr Javid has one brother who is a member of the police force and another brother who fought for us in the Gulf. Surely, this entitles Mr Javid to counted as a member of our community!

Well there we have it the tories are a total waste of time how long before Bromsgrove has its first mosque and you watch the Birmingham flood gates now open. I really hope the people of Bromsgrove dont forget how Julie also raped the town im voting BNP Liz seems a great lady speaking up for the British in our own country is not a crime.

What a load of claptrap from Ms Patch.

He is NOT a member of our community. He is a member of the Muslim community - as we have all been schooled to recognise by our political elite.

Bromsgrove is overwhelmingly of Christian heritage and native British - a British community.

Javid is none of these things.

If demanding one of our own to represent us is wrong then why do Labour, the Tories and LibDems offer up Asian Muslims as candidates in "muslim areas"? Why do they even consider it important to do so?

I frankly don't care who amongst the Tories is to blame for this selection - the Tories as a whole are to blame.

My family has always been evenly split Tory/Labour.

I guess we will all be voting BNP this time.

It seems it is the ONLY Party that represents US. The only Party that CARES about us.

Sally Patch, Bromsgrove says...
10:18am Mon 8 Feb 10

Oh, I see. Mr Javid's brother is a member of the Muslim Police Force and his brother fought in the Gulf in the elitist Moslem division? I don't think so!
Would these type of arguments be taking place if the candidate was a Catholic instead of C of E? Or visa versa? Many people of our community are different religions.
This talk of voting BNP is naive and ridiculous in the extreme.

I think it would be an excellent idea for all Candidates to participate in a "Question Time" Style husting event... we have some good posibble venues like the Artrix and an Ideal date for this event would be Thursday 23rd April...
Maybe Javid the new tory candidate
So far the only candidate who was born, has lived got married and worked in Bromsgrove Constituency is me.
Basically, the choice is between people parachuted into Bromsgrove with no record of campaigning for Bromsgrove or an Independent Candidate with a track record of successful campaign leadership... of course including setting up the petition to remove Julie Kirkbride and putting Bromsgrove on the political map.
I look forward to meeting Javid and hope we can get this Question Time style Hustings up and Running.

It has to be said the local Conservative Party have handled this badly. They were well aware of local feeling. Mr Dent and his crew should being taking more flak for this.
However, just how many 'local' MP's are there? Most are invited in to their constituencies. It's not everybody who is prepared to take on a public role with all the exposure and declarations one has to make.
The time to judge an MP is when in office.
Mr Javid has made substantial commitment to community work particularly with his fund raising for the Red Cross, who do NOT discern who they help. How many other candidates can say the same?

Andy Bayliss, Bromsgrove says...

Mr France.
You are having a laugh,
You have not lived in Bromsgrove all your life,
You got married here on your last attempt at marriage,
As for working in Bromsgrove, why have you had so many jobs in such a short time?.
What happens when you get bored with being an MP or it doesn't go your way will you claim its not democratic or you are being Bullied?
I see your website is still not up and running, What happened on Christmas day, did the beard on your santa costume trip you up.
And finally " a track record of successful campaign leadership" well I have no comment cus I'm PMSLing.
Why do we have Redditch campaigners coming in to setup campaigns in Bromsgrove?
There is only one independant PPC that fullfils the requirements you claim above and that is Stan Francis.
At the end of the day it is the People of Bromsgrove that will decide and you will find out what the people of Bromsgrove think of you then, Look at the Parent govenor elections at the North Bromsgrove High School for example.

Mercian, Bromsgrove says...

Sally Patch says "..Oh, I see. Mr Javid's brother is a member of the Muslim Police Force.."

Well, I guess his Policeman brother is in the National Association of Muslim Police or some similar organisation. Native British policemen are however denied the right to have an ethno-centric organisation to protect and promote their interests.

As for his other brother, please tell us what his role is and how many Al-Qaeda, Taliban and Iraqi militants he can "account" for. Or has he been given a pass on that for religious reasons.

As for the Catholic comparison - don't forget that before the Reformation was imposed upon the populace ALL our ancestors were Catholic.

I, and many like me, will be voting for the candidates who come from our community, know the area and are there to serve us and not use us as a stepping stone to a political career in Westminster.

Javid, and most other candidates, would go anywhere for a seat - that's obvious. Bromsgrove is a means to their ends. They have no intrinsic interest in us as a community.

We deserve better.

Meanwhile, the usual "useful idiots" on the Left have been attracted to this debate.

I don't see them objecting to Muslim M.P.s for majority muslim seats. Or gay M.P.s for places like Brighton. Nor, for the record, do I.

No, they reserve their efforts to deny the rights of native British people to have a say in running their own communities and retain their identity.

Their bigotry, directed solely towards the native British community, amounts to racism..

yampster, Bromsgrove says...
3:56pm Mon 8 Feb 10

"Know the area and are there to serve us and not use us as a stepping stone to a political career in Westminster."

Like that Nick Griffin or instance. Born in Barnet. Currently living in Llanerfyl in Mid Wales,
representing North West England as an MEP and planning to contest Barking at the General Election.

That sort of knowing the area do you mean?

"Would go anywhere for a seat" more like.

honestscott, redditch says...
3:59pm Mon 8 Feb 10

mark france you being a candidate clearly worries the tory and labour candidates as they no you are a hard working independent campaigns on the issues .and is out all year round not just at election time.perhaps if the labour and tory candidates worked as hard to get improvements in bromsgrove instead of sitting on there backsides being political puppets they know if the people judge them on their record in the council chamber they will lose by a landslide.

Mercian, Bromsgrove says...
4:28pm Mon 8 Feb 10

What has Nick Griffin, or Santa Claus for that matter, got to do with Bromsgrove - is he standing here?

I think not.

The argument is that candidates should have a track record in our area and relate to the community. They should be a known entity - be OUR champion. Bromsgrove has been a Rotten Borough for too long.

Haven't we seen enough of people using constituency seats to progress their careers and fill their pockets?

Look at Jacqui Smith for instance, not to mention the crooks who are trying to evade justice by invoking parliamentary privilege over fiddled expenses .

We need to return to the concept of public service and for our representatives to do just that.
Javid is a Party man who probably had barely even heard of Bromsgrove before he got the call... his focus will be in Westminster, he will work for Cameron, not us.

A quick perusal of his website demonstrates that his "community" work is almost exclusively within the immigrant community - not ours.

Lets face it.

The Tories view Bromsgrove as a safe seat. By parachuting in a token Muslim they will have "ticked a box" - and disregarded the interests of Bromsgrove people in the process....

Andy Bayliss, Bromsgrove says...
4:29pm Mon 8 Feb 10

Honestscott.
Why are you concerning yourself of Bromsgrove issues and not the issues of Redditch, I would have thought you would be trying to build on the success of the Jacki must go campaign?
What would a Government of independants be able to achieve?
There would be arguments over every decision! People with different ideas CANNOT make a government?
Why doesn't your Puppet make it clear what he stands for and what he will achieve if elected to the house of commons.
He has said that he has a website and keeps quoting the web address for it but it isnt up and running, It looks like he says one thing and cant follow it through.
Scott you need to tell him the truth as it is, not as he wants to see it.
All the best for your campaign in Redditch

On bbc hereford and worcester this morning he admitted being a banker claimed to have moved to bromsgrove only to be outted by the presenter, as living in london and whos contact telephone number is a landline in london when questioned about thisthe tory candidate claimed to be in london collecting shirts

Just how much have you contributed to your community ??

Mercian, Bromsgrove says...
10:14am Tue 9 Feb 10

Desmodave - as you will know the BRC spends most of its aid money o'seas. Westminster is a multicultural area quite different to here and it would be interesting to see where money raised for climbing a mountain in Africa was spent.

Anyone reading his website can peruse his community support work:-

http://www.sajidjavi
d.com/text.aspx?id=6
0

All overseas projects and inner city, mainly migrant, projects. The fundraising for BRC and Help the Aged is mysteriously non-specific.

Can you tell us what his fundraising was earmarked for if you are so confident. What were the links to the indigenous community.

No mention of Bromsgrove, the Shires or anywhere outside the M25.

It is plain that he identifies with, and is an activist for, HIS own migrant community. No problem there. Good luck to him.

What we need is someone who identifies with OURS. What is your problem with that?

He may be a great guy but he is also a "shoe-in" by Tory Central Office to proclaim their Multiculturalist credentials.

They have not given the people of Bromsgrove a seconds thought - just voting fodder.

They expect that we will continue to blindly vote Tory.

For years now it has been a standing joke that Bromsgrove would vote for a donkey if it had a blue rosette pinned to it.

Now we have that opportunity.

This is just how Chinese whispers spread totally ridiculous rumours based on tittle tattle posted by some outsider with an agenda, trained to whip up hatred and fear.
The people of Bromsgrove will, hopefully, make their decision based on the worth of each candidate and after giving them all a fair and unbiased hearing.

Quite right. If you follow the link to the Bristolian as I have done you will see it is an internet broadsheet written by someone with many axes to grind. There is no other reference anywhere to either the assault or the conviction. It is difficult enough for someone with an ethnic background to do well in the Police Force in this country with its institutionalised racism. What chance does a PC convicted of assault in Bristol in 2002 have of rising through the ranks to Chief Inspector in Coventry by 2010. Common sense says none. Common sense says it's probably someone else or a vindictive piece of internet mud slinging, but gullible readers of the Advertiser now believe his brother is a convicted woman beater and use what they now hold to be 'fact' as a stick to beat the newly chosen Conservative candidate. Mark France's campaign manager should be ashamed to stoop so low so early in the campaign.

5:24pm Tue 9 Feb 10

So we now have one Independant PPC. As apparentley the other independant proposing to stand has decided not to. Shame really as he was the better of the two and does appear to have principals.
Personaly although i have no intention of voting conservative i do feel that any Candidate should not be judged on what their brother has or has not done.
But on what they have achieved and can offer to the constituency.
If we were to look into the background of the only Independant
at present named we would find a whole host of unsavory history.
From Domestic abuse to sexual harrassment and much more.
One only has to backtrack to his history in Huddersfield for 12 years before moving back to Bromsgrove to see what type of representation we could expect from this candidate.
So before any mud slinging starts from the France camp perhaps he should come clean to his supporters.
At least the other candiates appear to have a solid employment history
something this Independant lacks .
Four to date in Bromsgrove and if you go back to employment history in Huddersfield well it just beggars belief.
Not a good reference for a post that will need commitment for a minimum of four years surely.
Thanks! but" NO FRANCE."

Oh, so accepting money from Trade Unions, Global Capitalists and rich people in search of a Knighthood or British passport is what exactly, Ms Patch?

At least money given freely BY the people of Bromsgrove to fund a candidate to truly REPRESENT the people of Bromsgrove is not rank with deceit, self interest and big money.

Its not begging - it gives us the chance to get a candidate from our own heritage, who speaks for our community and who is no puppet for big money interests or Internationalist politics.

Its called DEMOCRACY, something that we have seen little of over the last 12 years.

And you want to deny us that. Well done. Now we know.

If the Politicians HAD to get their funding from the public rather than large interest groups or the public purse then we may just get better representation AND less sleaze.

I truly hope that our next representative is ANYONE but a candidate from the three "main" Parties.

They only represent themselves and their political puppetmasters.

The Tories have presented us with a Muslim Banker from London, the LibDems have parachuted in a Chinese guy from Leamington Spa and Labour - well, Labour - that Party is so dead it is attracting flies.

We should go the way of Wyre Forest and vote in an independent who will serve US.

None of the others deserve our support - they regard us as pure voting fodder to feed their ambitions and fill their pockets.

What a depressing and sad day when candidates are ruled out purely on the colour of their skin. This is ignorant and intolerant racism based on fear. It doesn't matter if they are the best person for the job and the person most likely to benefit Bromsgrove. Let's just refuse to even hear their voices because they are not white (and this seems to extend to being of Chinese , as well as Asian, descent)
I am white but I am also the grand daughter of an immigrant. So I suppose I am now not welcome in Bromsgrove.
