A MAN has died and another has been taken to hospital after the van they were in ended up on its side on the M5 in Worcestershire.
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the northbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 6 near Worcester at 6.20pm yesterday.
An off-duty doctor and an off-duty paramedic were in the area and stopped to help. Two ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle and a senior member of West Midlands Ambulance management (who is also a paramedic) attended.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a van on its side. The driver had been confirmed at the scene.
“The passenger had managed to get out of the vehicle with the help of bystanders. He was assessed at the scene and found to have suspected neck and back injuries and a minor head injury. Crews immobilised him with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and took him to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
