BROMSGROVE’S MP has been consulting headteachers on the government’s plans to overhaul the school system.

Sajid Javid held a meeting to discuss the proposals and invited Paul Topping, South Bromsgrove High School headteacher, and Alan Roll, Waseley Hills High School headteacher.

The MP also welcomed headteachers from other Worcestershire schools, including Haybridge High, Woodrush High and Hagley RC High Schools.

Discussions surrounded the coalition government’s new Education Bill, introduced in the House of Commons in January.

The bill is wide ranging and plans to deliver a shake up of the national curriculum, the exam and test system, training of teachers, school funding, and the way schools are held accountable.

Mr Javid said: “My meeting with the headteachers was very productive. I wanted to hear their analysis of the government’s Education Bill, and I found their responses to be very informative.

“I have now conveyed their views to the Secretary of State for Education. I do believe these reforms will create an education system that delivers even higher standards for all children.

“It is vital the views of headteachers and other experts be taken into account.”
