CHINESE premier Wen Jiabao began an historic trip to Britain with a visit to the MG Rover plant in Longbridge.
Wen Jiabao, China’s leader, visited the factory on Sunday, (June 26), and helped launched the new MG6C Magnette model.
The plant is now owned by China’s Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, after a merger with the Nanjing Automobile Group.
MG Rover cars are assembled at the plant from parts sent from China.
Chinese residents living in the Midlands, gathered at Longbridge to greet Prime Minster Wen Jiabai at the start of the three-day visit designed to boost links between China and Britain.
But a Free Tibet group banned in China, held a demonstration outside the Longbridge plant.
