WORCESTERSHIRE County Council has moved to quash rumours it is planning to close Rubery Library.
Villagers attended a meeting at Rubery’s youth centre on Monday, which was also attended by council cabinet members.
The library’s future was discussed, but a spokesman for the county council explained people had mistakenly left the meeting assuming the library was going to close.
The spokesman said: “The meeting in Rubery was an opportunity to reassure library users we have no plans to close their service.
“It was a good opportunity to explain what our plans are both for the library service locally, and across the county.
“As with all our libraries we are looking to see if the service can be run more efficiently, perhaps by sharing buildings with other organisations or getting the local community more involved.”
The spokesman added that although they remain committed to ensuring residents had access to library in Rubery, it will not be immune from having to make savings, as the council tries to meet the predicted funding shortfall of £60-70 million.
