Animal adoption centre to hold annual fete

A BROMSGROVE pet charity is set to hold a family fun day to help homeless and sick animals.

The Blue Cross animal adoption sanctuary’s annual fete, now in its 24th year, will be held on Saturday, September 1 from noon to 4pm at the centre on Wildmoor Lane, Catshill.

Among the many attractions there will be birds of prey, go-karts, archery, drumming and circus skills workshops, children’s activities, a rock climbing wall and more. Food stalls will again offer a range of tantalising goodies from savoury pastries, bread, homemade dips and Caribbean preserves to fudge, crêpes and local cider.

The popular dog show returns with nine fun classes including ‘best child handler’ ‘dog with the waggiest tail’ and ‘best six legs’. Entry is just 50p per class and rosettes and prizes will be given for first to sixth place. Judging starts at the earlier time of 1pm this year. Visitors with a Blue Cross dog can join a special grand parade reunion taking place at 12.50pm in the main show ring. Watch members of Westglen Heelwork Club put through their paces in the main display ring at 12.15pm and leading animal photographer Nick Ridley will be on hand to take photos of your dogs during the day.

All funds raised on the day go towards the care of needy pets like Toby, a nine-year-old Yorkshire terrier who came to the centre after his owner became ill. Toby is an affectionate dog who is looking for a quiet home to spend his retirement years.
