Townsfolk chance to take a church trail

BROMSGROVE residents are being given the chance to celebrate the fine architecture of town churches as part of a national event.

Heritage Open Day, the annual celebration of English architecture and culture, is being held on Saturday, September 8.

The scheme run annually in September, offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.

For the day, Bromsgrove District Council has organised a church trail of buildings still used for regular worship across Bromsgrove district.

The trail of 16 churches includes St John’s, All Saints, St. Bartholomew, the Holy Trinity churches in Lickey, Dodford and Belbroughton, St Leonard, and St Catherine.

Many of the churches in the trail date back to the medieval period.

Councillor Kit Taylor, responsible for planning and regeneration, said: “There are excellent churches dotted around the district and this heritage open day is a good day to get out and see some living, breathing architecture.

“These are buildings that were designed to inspire awe and they still do.

“They are as impressive now as the day they were built.”

Individual churches will be open to the public for the trail during either a morning or afternoon session.
