Convicted murderer on the loose found

A CONVICTED murderer on the loose for more than a week, who went missing from HMP Hewell, has been found.

David Gilbert was located in Penzance by police this morning, Wednesday, October 3.

As a result of police enquiries, officers from Devon and Cornwall Police Force Support Group attended an address in the town at 9.15am and found the 56-year-old.

Gilbert, who originates from Penzance, was detained without resistance and was taken into custody in Cornwall pending his return to prison.

Gilbert failed to return to the Tardebigge prison on September 22 following a day release.

He was jailed for life after being convicted of the murder of his partner in 1992, but was nearing the end of his sentence and was being considered for parole.

West Mercia Police worked closely with colleagues from Devon and Cornwall Police and the Prison Service to help trace Gilbert.
