Transferring from Malvern, where he had been in charge of the CID as detective inspector, Edwin Barker was being promoted to chief inspector in charge of Bromsgrove.

A NEW shop opened on Bromsgrove High Street and closed the same afternoon. The shop for a day was run by the Bromsgrove Ladies Circle and the proceeds of the short but intensive excursion into  counter trading were to go to provide comforts to elderly widows living alone in the Bromsgrove area.
