BROMSGROVE had escaped the measles epidemic which was sweeping neighbouring Redditch. However, health chiefs were taking no chances and were heavily leafleting the town to advise parents on the importance of vaccinating their youngsters.

BROMSGROVE’S MP Hal Miller had been handed the job of leading the Tories into battle in the next general election after being promoted to the role of party organisation vice-chairman. The choice came as a shock. After he resigned as defence minister Francis Pym’s parliamentary private secretary, many believed any hope of a top job had gone.

AVONCROFT Museum of Historic Buildings in Bromsgrove was facing a serious cash crises despite attracting 55,746 visitors last year – 1,000 more than the previous year. A campaign to encourage more visitors was to be launched to pay for the general running of the museum and to increase its unique collection of buildings.
