JOSEPH Lammas, of Crown Close, appeared at Bromsgrove Petty Sessions charged with being drunk in High Street. PC Woodins said he found the defendant lying drunk by the side of the watchman’s fire in the street. Defendant managed to get up after a struggle and witness took him home, but he could not get in. He had a lot of keys and could not find the right one. The chairman said the defendanthadstarted the new year badly and fined him 5s and 5s 6d costs.

à THE Bishop of Worcester attended a service for men at St Godwald’s Church.

The bishop spoke to the congregation and said he wasnot there for the purpose of preaching a sermon, but instead to have a quiet talk, man to man, friend to friend. The bishop said he was there to back up the church’s new vicar who he knew had been carrying out his work with difficulties, some of which was unnecessarily created.
