Memory Lane - 100 years ago

THE 10th annual horse show, promoted by the Alvechurch Horse Show Society, had seen ideal weather and attracted one of the largest attendances of the public the village had ever seen. The society’s president, Lord Windsor, had been in attendance and viewed the 150 entries. The Messenger commented that there was no complaints about the quality of the animals shown.

à THE children of the Earl of Plymouth’s School, Tardebigge, and their teachers, had assembled in their playground on Empire Day to see the hoisting of the Union Jack.Patrioticsongswere sung and visitor Colonel Dixon addressed the children impressing on them their duty as future citizens of the great empire on which the sun never sets. God Save the King was sung to close the event.
